One of the most transformative rituals I do is…dancing to dark techno in a place that – to many – seems the opposite of light.

Cigarette smoke around me instead of Palo Santo.

Hard beats instead of mantras.

Black and leather instead of white goddess gowns.

People on drugs.

Sweaty bodies, intensity, not many rules. 

Human darkness. A lot of it.

How unspiritual, some would say.

Yet, many of my deepest spiritual experiences happen(ed) there.

Not despite the darkness of that place.

Because of it.

This place where “too much” of anything doesn’t exist.

There just is.

Light and shadows.

Both equally welcome. 

Dancing there is my holy ritual.

It awakens this part inside me – so ancient, raw and deep. 

So much healing has happened there.

So much liberation. 

Spiritual awakenings and insights.

I come out purified, whole and so full of love.

Leaving behind the skins that felt too tight.

The limits that felt too strict.

The boxes I never fit.

You can find the holiest experiences in the seemingly unholiest of places.

I love meeting the divine while meditating on my yoga mat.

But I also love meeting it there,

On the dance floor,

Hard, unforgiving beats,

Witnessing the divine perfection

and raw beauty of this underworld.

And in doing so, I shine and witness the greatest light.
